1 Day Mt Longonot Hiking Trip
Mount Longonot is 60 kilometres northwest of Nairobi. It is a stratovolcano thought to have last erupted in the 1860s. It rises to a height of 2,776 m, Mount Longonot has a forest of small trees that covers the crater floor, and small steam vents are found spaced around the walls of the crater. The mountain is home to various species of wildlife, notably zebra, giraffe, buffaloes and elands.

The mountain can be navigated in two ways: A straight ascend to the top and back down or reaching the top and circumnavigating the crater rim. The crater has a circumference of 7.2Km the walking trail runs from the park entrance up to the crater rim, and continues in a loop encircling the crater. The hiking is about 8–9 km long but very steep, which takes around 3 to 4 hrs.
Trip itinerary
- 07:15am: Pick up from your Nairobi hotel or JKIA airport for the Mt Longonot hike.
- 07:30am: Depart for Mount Longonot, expected to arrive at 08:30am, start Hiking, Bird watching & site seeing.
- 1:00pm: We will take our picnic Lunch as we photograph and start descending as we enjoy game watching, bird watching & site seeing
- 4:00pm: Leave for Nairobi expected to arrive at National Museums of Kenya at 5:30 pm
